Today's guest, Gretchen Salyer, joins us to discuss the Surgeon General Report that 4 in 10 Parents are ‘so stressed they cannot function’ and talks about the stress and difficulties facing modern parents today.
Gretchen Salyer is the Founder & CEO of The June Care Company, a platform connecting families who need childcare with trusted moms and recommended sitters who can care for their kids.
Prior to founding June Care, Gretchen was a stay-at-home mom to her three daughters after working as a tech executive at Intuit for over a decade.
June Care was started based on Gretchen's own personal experience as a full time working mom, and a full time stay-at-home mom, but really born out of the pandemic. She was a full time stay-at-home mom when the pandemic hit.
Gretchen felt fortunate that she wasn’t trying to work a second job while caring for her kids, but her friends and neighbors, on the other hand, were not able to leave their jobs and their childcare completely disappeared. And this was happening everywhere, resulting in more than 3 million working moms leaving their jobs over the past 2 years.
In order to help, she arranged childcare swaps locally so that parents could have consistent time each week when they knew they would be able to work, run errands, get a break.
Gretchen started to wonder whether it would be possible to create similar communities of support for parents, everywhere. And that was the birth of June Care.
They launched in the summer of 2021 and are now serving families in cities throughout California and they hope to expand quickly throughout the U.S. Families can sign up and get matched with another family in their neighborhood at Junecare.co.
