The busiest travel time of the year is quickly approaching, but it may look a lot different this year for many people due to inflation. WalletHub, a personal finance website that's known for its studies and surveys, recently released the findings of its 2022 Winter Travel Survey.
My guest today, WalletHub analyst, Jill Gonzalez, joins us today to discuss how to save money on domestic and international travel this winter, despite rate hikes and inflation. Jill also talks about why many people are planning to apply for a new credit card and use credit card rewards to save on winter travel expenses, and shares some tips for people who are trying to take advantage of credit cards this winter.
“People simply have less money left to spare for luxuries like travel when the prices of everyday items are inflated,” says Gonzalez. Jill shares statistics from WalletHub's 2022 Winter Travel Survey, explaining that 26 million Americans are unable to afford winter travel this year, and 66% more people will not travel this winter compared to 2021.
